The Three Muses

The Muses, or graces, in Greek religion, are one of a group of goddesses of fertility. The name refers to a fertile field or garden's “pleasing” or “charming” appearance. The number of Muses varied in different legends, but usually there were three: Aglaia (Brightness), Euphrosyne (Joyfulness), and Thalia (Bloom).

In this artwork, I use a study of an oil painting to create the depiction of the three muses, in order to play with different aspects, including form, light, and fabric texture and opacity. (2024)
