Reclaim Venus

70% of art collections in London galleries are paintings made by male artists. A lot of these paintings are of women. In this project, I looked to reclaim the meaning of the paintings by overlapping them with stories and quotes from women’s experiences with misogyny, which gave the paintings new and more relatable meanings for modern-day women, whilst also bringing attention to the lack of women/female artists being represented in galleries.

The project was presented in the form of a zine, as well as a paper frame that could be used and held up to paintings in galleries.

The intention of the frame is to interact with art in any gallery, and be able to give works painted by men of women a new and more relatable narrative for the modern-day woman.
